How long does it take to put braces on?
Braces are attached quickly and easily to your teeth with a strong adhesive in about 1 hour.
Does it hurt?
Your teeth may be tender or sensitive to pressure which is completely normal. Some discomfort and soreness are possible as your gums adjust to the braces. Over the counter pain relievers will assist with any discomfort in the first few days.
Can I eat right away?
It is a good idea to wait two hours after getting braces before eating solid food. You may find it easier to eat soft foods for the first couple of days.
Any foods I should avoid?
You should avoid anything too hard, sticky, or chewy that might damage your braces and disrupt treatment.
Foods to Avoid:
- Gum
- Beef jerky
- Nuts
- Hard or sticky candy. e.g., Caramel, Taffy, etc.
- Corn chips and Popcorn
- Whole apples (sliced okay)
- Celery
- Candy bars
- Soda
How do I keep my teeth clean with braces?
It’s business as usual. Brush, floss, and rinse regularly between meals. Food can get caught easily in brackets and wires which requires a little more time flossing to ensure healthy teeth. We will provide instruction.
