The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children of about seven years are examined for the first time by an orthodontist (at that age permanent teeth begin to appear in the mouth) to identify any potential problem. Early detection and treatment can help prevent possible tooth extraction or possible problems later.
Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment for Children
If it is determined that treatment is necessary during your child’s first orthodontic consultation, it will require a two-phase approach. The early treatment phase will begin right away, while your child still has most of their primary teeth. The second phase will occur as your child gets older and at a time determined by your child’s growth and dental needs.
